Resonant instabilities mediated by drag and electrostatic interactions in laboratory and astrophysical dusty plasmas

چکیده

Dusty plasmas are known to support a diverse range of instabilities, including both generalizations standard plasma instabilities and ones caused by effects specific dusty systems. It has been recently demonstrated that novel broad class streaming termed resonant drag (RDIs), can be attributed particular resonance phenomenon, manifested defective eigenvalues the linearized dust/fluid system. In this work, it is phenomenon not unique RDIs used as framework understand wider instabilities. Particular attention given filamentary ionization instability seen in laboratory two-stream instability. shown that, due commonalities underlying physics between dust-ion-acoustic acoustic RDI, these should relevant strongly overlapping regimes astrophysical plasmas. proposed similar overlap experimental accessibility modes (and instability) allows for possibility investigation complex astrophysically dynamics.

Laboratory studies of waves and instabilities in dusty plasmas*

Theoretical and experimental studies of low-frequency electrostatic waves in plasmas containing negatively charged dust grains are described. The presence of charged dust is shown to modify the properties of ion-acoustic waves and electrostatic ion-cyclotron waves through the quasineutrality condition even though the dust grains do not participate in the wave dynamics. If the dust dynamics is i...

Magnetic Reconnection in Astrophysical and Laboratory Plasmas

Magnetic reconnection is a topological rearrangement of magnetic field that converts magnetic energy to plasma energy. Astrophysical flares, from the Earth’s magnetosphere to γ -ray bursts and sawtooth crashes in laboratory plasmas, may all be powered by reconnection. Reconnection is essential for dynamos and the large-scale restructuring known as magnetic self-organization. We review reconnect...

Modulational instability of dust ion acoustic waves in astrophysical dusty plasmas with non thermal electrons

Propagation of dust ion acoustic waves in plasmas composed of nonthermal distributed electrons and stationary dust particles is investigated. Nonlinear Schrdinger equation is derived to describe small amplitude waves, using the reduction perturbation technique. Modulation instability of dust ion acoustic waves is analysed for this system. Parametric investigation indicates that growth rate of...

Electrostatic waves and instabilities in multispecies nonneutral plasmas

This paper briefly describes waves and instabilities in a multispecies nonneutral plasma that have previously been studied only in neutral plasmas: ion sound waves, drift waves, and ion temperature gradient waves. The theory of their dispersion relations and growth rates is similar to that for neutral plasmas, but results differ in several important respects. For instance, drift waves are not n...

Ambipolar diffusion in laboratory and ionospheric dusty plasmas

A self-consistent model of the ambipolar diffusion of electrons and ions in dusty plasmas accounting for the local electric fields, the dust grain charging process, and the interaction of the plasma particles with the dust grains and neutrals is presented. The dependencies of the diffusion coefficient on the interaction of the electrons and ions with the dust grains as well as with the neutrals...
